Are my dreams coming true? Is Gabe Newell a reader of Ironhammers? It wasn’t long ago that Trion Worlds launched their mobile app for Rift. Something I was glad to see, but my immediate response was that “I’ve been wishing for from other gaming services (I’m looking at you Steam) for ages.” Today, Valve have announced that they are in fact giving us a mobile app for iOS and Android devices, and it’s in closed beta testing now.
Read the full story »Bobby takes a quick look at the recently released Steam app for Android, which released in closed beta form yesterday. It’s also available on iOS devices. Both versions are in closed beta. To register your interest, download the app from iTunes or Android Market and attempt to sign in. You’ll be informed that your account isn’t in the beta yet, but it’ll also let Valve know you want to be considered in the future.
Revealed at the recent CES event in Las Vegas, was a new range of gaming mice from Steelseries. Among which were the SteelSeries Kinzu v2 and the Kinzu v2 Pro, mice which were aiming to be basic in functions, but high in quality. As stated by SteelSeries CMO Kim Rom, “The Kinzu v2 and Kinzu v2 Pro Edition are for players who don’t want anything more than minimal buttons and functionality, but that recognize minimal still means quality and precision.” This also means a very affordable price-point. But what do you get for your money?
Imagine that. It was actually a whole year ago since Arrowhead Studios released Magicka. The game took almost everybody who played it by surprise, with both its unique, spell-casting combat, and it’s nonchalant attitude towards its very own seriousness. That said, Arrowhead are bringing us new content to this very day, adding in a new spell known as ‘the confuse spell’ to celebrate the game’s first Birthday.
While many PC gamers have a had more than a few choice words to say about Ubisoft and some if their recent decisions surround PC gaming, particularly their DRM, today I bring news that their doing something nice for us. Rayman Origins, which received a huge number of positive reviews when it launched on the consoles in November of last year, is getting a release on the PC on March 30th, 2012.
MMO players are certainly no strangers to in-game relationships. Whether it be guild-mates, virtual allies or my own adopted daughters in Lord of the Rings Online, making friends with people is sometimes (not always) one of the best things about playing a game in a massively multiplayer world — and this Valentine’s Day, the fairly recent game from Trion Worlds, Rift, is looking to make the record books.
When I first saw tweets going around about there being no BlizzCon 2012 a few moments ago, I initially panicked a little more than necessary. My favourite part of BlizzCon, despite it all being rather awesome, is the StarCraft II tournament’s they hold. When I heard “no BlizzCon”, I thought, “no tournament”. However, we’ll still get our fill according the full announcement, and their reasoning for not holding a convention this year isn’t a bad one for gamers.
Last week, Futuremark Games Studio released their second title, Unstoppable Gorg. Many reviewers of the alien tower defense title, including myself in our review here on Ironhammers, had a lot of good things to say about the game’s live-action, black and white cutscenes. Every one of them made me giggle to some extent, so it was pretty cool to come across a blog they’d put up to show some of the behind the scenes stuff that went into them.
These indie bundles seem to be coming about everywhere you look lately. That’s not a complaint. Keep ‘em coming! The latest, though, is one heck of a collection — and is rightly named as being a “more focused” bundle. You can now get your fill of all things Serious Sam, with a total of six Sam-filled games making up the latest Indie Royale Bundle.
A while back, Blizzard Entertainment started auctioning off several pieces of old hardware that had been previously used to run many of the World of Warcraft’s game worlds. And if you thought you’d missed your chance to get one, while helping out a very worthy charity at the same time, you’re in luck. Yesterday, a bunch more have become available, many of which were used to run European servers that many of us will have played on.
