Mike Morhaime promised to disclose for details about Diablo III at the last conference call, and he has been true to his word. He spoke today about the company’s testing progress, giving eager fans some word about an external test and if Santa might have the game in his sack this Christmas.
The gaming icon sounded confident and genuinely excited when Diablo III had it’s turn in the conference spotlight, saying:
“On the Diablo III front, I am pleased to report that we began internal, company-wide testing last week. The game is looking great, and we’re currently aiming at a third quarter launch for external beta testing.”
No information was given on the nature of the external beta, which Acts would be explored or whether it would be an open or closed test. Still, any external beta testing falls on my glad ears, at least. A third quarter launch would place the external beta somewhere this summer, leaving plenty of time for an end of year release should the testing go as planned.
He continued by assuring investors that the company were pushing hard for a 2011 release, though, as ever, he would not guarantee a fixed release date or expected quarter.
