In part one of Joe’s Shootmania Storm preview, Joe looked at the overall game design ideas, and how it ties into the overall idea that is ManiaPlanet. This time, in part two, it’s time to focus on the specifics of what’s there at the moment — in particular, the game modes that are currently on

TrackMania 2 Canyon was the latest game to release under Nadeo’s brand; I reviewed it here on Ironhammers, and really liked it, but now the original TM is back — and this time I’m here with a Trackmania 2 Stadium preview. TrackMania 2 Stadium is the latest addition to Nadeo’s own growing content hub known

The Human Brain and Lasers in Tandem Bunny hopping, jump pads, glowing projectiles and electronic music alongside freedom of movement, speed and the endless war between red and blue – this is the year 1999. Wait, but it has creation tools for players and the sound of a dial-up connection simply cannot be heard. This

A different view in a quite literal sense, actually. Hi-Rez Studios’ SMITE takes on the currently very popular MOBA genre, but switches from the usual isometric view-point, to a third-person one –giving complete control over your character and forcing you to aim every single shot. I’d been watching the game closely, and thanks to @FourCourtJester’s Twitter give-away, I managed to get a closed beta key and finally check it out for myself.

In recent times, there are few e-sports spectacles like the big Major League Gaming (MLG) live events — and tonight sees the kick off of the first such event in 2012, the 2012 MLG Winter Championships.

I’ve always got way too many tabs open in my browser, but this last week there’s been a particularly different one open in the background — it contained the free-to-play, browser-based title 8Realms, from Jagex. It was really the first time I’ve spent any time with a game of this nature, where you generally click something and then wait a set time for it to complete, to then gain something which enables you to click something else. But 8Realms seemed to have a cool concept, and the trailer had lots of guys with spears marching in formation. So I thought I’d give it a look.

Yesterday I got into the closed beta for the upcoming, semi-browser-based racing MMO, Auto Club Revolution. I figured the easiest way to show you what it’s all about was to stright up make a little video of both the browser and racing parts.

Here’s another eagerly awaited game that I had the privilege of getting my hands on at this year’s Eurogamer Expo, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. As PC gamers, we’re likely all familiar with the franchise — and perhaps even a little concerned at what may happen to it now that Valve seem to be focusing this version of their FPS on the consoles — here’s how I got on

This past Saturday I had a day to wander around this year’s Eurogamer Expo. It was good to see several games there on the PC platform, which was a great improvement over last time I attended. Anyhow, shortly after lunchtime came my first appointment of the day. It was time to head over to Trion Worlds’ booth — they’re the folk behind RIFT — and seek out Lance James, the community manager for End of Nations, who’d been assigned the task of showing me through the game.

Over the past week, I’ve spent a little time with the multiplayer beta for Red Orchestra 2. My first thoughts? “Wow, I really suck!” There’s no nonsense here, and certainly no space for any shenanigans. The sense of realism will hit you in the face just as quickly as the virtual bullets hit your character in the skull. Venture into open space from the wrong angle or at the wrong time, and you’ll be awaiting a respawn — which still tries to enforce a true to life feeling by spawning players in waves, in order to simulate reinforcing units.
